A popular tourist destination, Argegno is situated in a large inlet on the western shore of Lake Como, at the mouth of the “Val d’Intelvi”.
Thanks to its beautiful panoramic location, from Argegno one can enjoy a superb view that embraces the lake from the promontory of Bellagio to the North as far as Nesso towards the South.
The village of Argegno is certainly of Roman origins and at one time was part of a defensive system which extended as far as the Isola Comacina to obstruct the passage of invaders.
The ancient centre of the village is very picturesque: it is crossed by the Telo stream and is divided into two hamlets, which are joined by an old stone bridge with a lancet arch.
From Argegno it is possible to take a cable car up to Pigra (881m), which is situated on a plateau from where one can enjoy some really breathtaking views of the lake as well as lovely and relaxing walks.
