Dongo

Dongo is situated in a small gulf on the delta of the Albano stream.

Since the 15th century iron ore was extracted from the mines in the Val Dongana and brought to the iron foundries.

Even when the mines were exhausted in the 17th century, the foundries kept on working.

In the main square is Palazzo Manzi, now the town hall, which was where Mussolini was taken after his capture while trying to escape into Switzerland on a German convoy in 1945.
