Menaggio

Menaggio's position, halfway along the western shore of Lake Como and at the mouth of the Menaggio Valley, one of the valleys that link Lake Como to Lake Lugano in Switzerland, means that the town has always been an important trading centre.

As always, trade brings passage, but now the town’s main square and main street have been closed off to traffic, to create on oasis of peace.

Menaggio has been a tourist centre since the 19th century, offering many entertainments, interesting walks through the old town and up to the remains of the castle, as well as a beautiful lakeside promenade, with magnificent views.

Loveno and Breglia, two small hamlets just above Menaggio, make good starting points for long walks.

Information about these walks can be found in the Tourist Information Office, in the main square of Menaggio.
